The old Hacienda Del Lago is located in the pre-Columbia fishing village of Ajijic, Mexico about 30 minutes from the Guadalajara International Airport. The village is encircled by the Sierra Madras mountains on the shores of Lake Chapala. Designed by Gene Fortune, the authentic Mexican architecture is breathtaking both inside and out. This spectacular compound is nestled in the village only two blocks from Lake Chapala and four blocks from the Plaza.
With over 7,000 square feet of living space and 3,200 square feet of courtyard area, the sprawling hacienda is a perfect balance of beauty and peace. The Hacienda is well known and thought of as the most amazing residence in the Village. During the past year, additional remodeling and updating have been completed to restore it to its original magnificence. It truly exceeds all expectations of even the most discriminating client.
The courtyard and pool areas are impeccably landscaped including magical romantic night lighting to accent the beautiful residence. The Hacienda is completely furnished including Waterford crystal and fine china making entertaining for guests an unforgettable experience.
The Hacienda is a perfect setting to host seminars and retreats. Now with the restoration of the chapel, there are endless possibilities. The Hacienda sleeps eight (8) comfortably. For large groups, there are many B&Bs and hotels within a short walking distance that are very reasonably priced.
There are so many indescribable and wonderful rooms to explore that only photos and a personal tour can do proper justice. Please see the complete Digital Portfolio below.

~ The Story ~
Discovering the Hacienda was a serendipitous experience. After spending a few days in Ajijic I realized this was the perfect place to have Peyton’s Place Women’s Retreats.
Within a few short weeks, I returned to the village in search of a venue. Purchasing property had never entered my consciousness. Quite by accident, I took a stroll through the village, passed the Hacienda and saw an open gate. I paused to see if I could catch a glimpse of what was hiding behind the walls. And there it was. A lush courtyard, bursting with color and a sense of some of the things I value most: Peace and serenity.
My realtor said the property was vacant and had just been listed on the market to sell. The owners and my realtor were all from Alabama. Another happy coincidence? Standing by the open gate he assured me we could walk through the property. I stepped into the courtyard and within seconds I knew there was something incredibly special about this Hacienda. Divine synchronicity once more. I remember reading “the consequence of serendipity is sometimes a brilliant discovery.” The Hacienda is absolute proof. And the rest is history.
